Durham voters will choose candidates for mayor and two city council seats Tuesday in one of dozens of municipal primaries across North Carolina. Seven candidates are on the ballot for the Durham mayor seat held since 2017 by Steve Schewel, a Duke alumnus and visiting assistant professor at the Sanford School of Public Policy. He’s not seeking re-election. Primary voters will also choose one of four city council candidates in Ward 1 and one of three vying for a council seat in Ward 2.
