Innovation keeps musicians hopeful during the pandemic | Letter

The pandemic killed live performances, and it’s so hard to believe one of my memorable quarantine performances was a year ago last week. Many of my colleagues in music played their instruments on Facebook or online throughout the past year to help ease the isolation all of us were experiencing.
I love these memories, but they are bittersweet. I remember seeing one of my fellow musicians, Steve Saive, at peace playing “Amazing Grace” on his trumpet. Renowned for his amazing-style music, he performed in the confines of his makeshift music studio in the basement of his home.
