April 2020 saw the city s worst surge of homicides for the year, and this month is up to three in the first week. The latest was a man shot Wednesday morning in the 100 block of West 23rd Street, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
Police are looking for a dark four-door sedan possibly involved. Multiple 911 calls led officers to respond to the area about 11 a.m., Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said. There they found the victim, 30 to 35 years old, lying on a sidewalk near North Laura Street with multiple gunshot wounds. There was possibly a car in the area, seen twice, Rudlaff said. The gunfire was in the street, we can only assume possibly from the car, but we can t be sure if they exited the vehicle.
A man s body was discovered early Thursday riddled with bullets outside an apartment complex on Shenandoah Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff s Office said.
Officers were called to the La Estancia apartments off Old Kings Road and Edgewood Avenue about 7:45 a.m. and located the man near some air-conditioning units between some of the buildings, Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said. He was in his early 30s and was shot multiple times. Our investigation revealed that several residents in the apartments heard gunfire around 4 a.m., however 911 was not called, Rudlaff said. . We are trying to talk to some of the witnesses. There is a potential unidentified individual who left the scene. We do not know that individual had any injuries.

The separate shootings happened at Calloway Cove Apartments, formerly Washington Heights, the Sheriff s Office said.
Police have not said whether the shootings might be related or a possible motive for the most recent killing. Police said the victim was a man in his 20s but provided little else about the homicide.
Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said officers responded to the complex about 11 p.m. and found the victim shot in the courtyard behind Building E. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rudlaff said police immediately conducted a canvas of the area but no witnesses were found.
Under arrest are Kyshawn Lamont Glover and Owen Maoma Laureano-Cosme, both 17, Keon Hunter Lester, 18, and Alana Rae Sears, 14, according to the Sheriff s Office. All are charged with murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. Sears is accused of being the getaway driver who led police on a 3-mile police chase after the shooting.
