jon: i m jon scott. both republican governor scott walker and his democratic challenger from two years ago, milwaukee mayor tom barrett have cast their ballots this morning. they join millions of voters in that key battleground state trying to decide whether governor walker should keep his job or whether barrett should replace him. the drive to recall walker began after the he released his plan to balance the budget in 2011. it called for stripping most public workers of their collective bargaining rights. that move sparked massive protests across the state and made headlines across the country. voter turnout expected to be high, near presidential election levels. the results could give president obama and governor romney a glimpse what s to come in november. but that s not all. primaries underway right now in six states and there are some key congressional races to watch including ones in california and new jersey that pit democrats against each other and have president obam
the supreme court. what some judges in california have just decided and how it could effect every state in the nation. plus a massive knew sky drone takes to the sky. this one can do something that no other drone can manage. tonight, flying with the phantom eye. but first from fox this tuesday night. just two hours until the polls close in wisconsin wisconsin s historic recall election. tonight exit polls are showing voters are split on the issue started this whole thing. governor scott walker s law to limit collective bargaining rights for most state workers. according to exit polls 9% of wisconsin voters say they strongly approve of how governor walker handled collective bargaining. look at the bottom of the screen there. slightly more say more say they strongly disapprove. so the analysts contend it could all come down to that group in the middle. governor walker says the bill was necessary to balance the budget. opponents called it union busting and organized huge prote
showing strong feelings. judging from the fox news exit polling data we have thus far. break it down for you. almost four in ten voters said they approve strongly of governor walker s handling of collective bar ganning. you will recall, governor walker s succession curbing the collective barking right of the public sector employee union that sparked the recall. similar number says they disapprove of how walker handled the irk. one thing we keep an eye on tonight is how those in the middle, those who somewhat approve or somewhat disapprove of the governor s record on collective bargaining voted today. the key to that number may be the broader economy. 52% of all voters today said they approve of walker s job performance on the economy. now on voter enthusiasm, a strong majority of governor walker s voters said they are specifically voting for him. now check out what mayor barrett supporters said. half reported they were affirmatively voting for democratic candidate. nearly as
i want to bring in mark preston to talk about with what all of this means. i guess in a way mark, we knew that things were partisan. that s not surprising. but if you look at how pew researchers measure this, 48 different ways of measuring how we feel about politics over the years, and they find that we re more divided than ever. almost double over the past 25 years. why? you know suzanne, talk about a comprehensive study that pew has done now, you know, there s a lot of reasons. and what s interesting is that it shows that not only are we more divided politically but also seeing a growing middle. you know, a grow withing number of folks not aligning themselves entirely with the democratic party or the republican party. i think what you see is frustration out there right now on how to lead forward. i think you might be able to tie in the fact that social media has become so prevalent in helping organize people, you know, ten years ago we didn t have facebook or twitter or t
outright kooky and za zinni, there is a huge risk. mitt romney has been challenged time and time again. why are you going in that direction? is there some connection we need to know about? in that sense, it could back fire how many. real quickly, i want to get to this. a lot of eyes will be on this. president obama has voiced his support for democrat steve rothman and hillary clinton has backed bill pascrell. what implications could this have? not much. president obama has his views. president clinton has his views. the good thing about these pretty strong personalities, i think they respect that difference. in term of any wider implications, i don t think it will have any. the reality is president clinton is full on in terms of trying to get president obama elected, no one doubts that. no one questions that. going forward you ll see these two real icons in the party
