Unlikely Cubs with 8 RBI in a game, Part 4 By JohnW53 on Jun 9, 2021, 5:55am CDT +
This is the fourth and last in a series of posts about the 4 lesser known of the 8 Cubs who have driven in 8 runs in a single game.
The team record is 9, set by Heinie Zimmerman, in 1911, and tied by Sammy Sosa, in 2002.
The more familiar names with 8 RBI are Rogers Hornsby, in 1931; Babe Herman, in 1933; Ron Santo, in 1970; and Dave Kingman, in 1978.
Previous posts in this series described the big days of Lee Walls, in 1957; Ed Bailey, in 1965; and George Mitterwald, in 1974.

Cubs milestone wins on road By JohnW53 on Jan 9, 2021, 3:43am CST +
11,000 games in the National League.
They ended the season with
11,016.
4,971 on the road.
So, the Cubs need
29 more wins to reach
5,000 on the road. They have won at least 30 road games in every full season but one beginning in 2001, and from 2015-19 they averaged 43.
They were 15-12 on the road in the shortened 2020 season.
.
Two Major League teams already have won 5,000 times on the road: the Giants (5,105) and Dodgers (5,026).
The Cardinals (4,989) also have more road wins than the Cubs.
The Cubs first win ever in the National League came on the road, a 4-0 triumph at Louisville in their NL debut on Tuesday, April 25, 1876.
“I had fooled myself into feeling that by seeing people march on streets on our behalf, and that all people matter,” White Sox executive vice president Ken Williams told USA TODAY Sports, “there was going to be some change. I really thought that. I won’t make that mistake again.”

It was supposed to be different this time around.
Major League Baseball embraced the Black Lives Matter movement this summer, and pledged diversity in their front-office hirings this winter.
In the end, there were eight president of baseball operation and GM jobs filled this winter, and not a single job went to an African-American. Kim Ng was the only minority hired when she became the first woman and first person of East Asian descent to be the GM of a MLB franchise with the Miami Marlins.
