No municipal election for city council needed in Sturgis Gary MatthewsMarch 1, 2021Local courtesy No City Council Election in Sturgis STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis say the April 13 City Council Election will not be needed as all candidates are running unopposed this year. One candidate from each ward submitted the required number of petition signatures. Ward 1, incumbent Terry Keszler decided not to seek re-election. His seat will be filled by Angela Wilkerson. Ward 2 incumbent Beka Zerbst turned in the required number of petitions and has no opposition. Ward 3 incumbent Ron Waterland decided not to seek re-election. His seat will be filled by Aaron Jordan.

For more than a decade, Sturgis wrestling was arguably the top program in the state. From 1998-2011, the Scoopers were state champions six times in Class A, five of those coming over the span of six years. They also were runner-up three-times as well over this fourteen year stretch. Longtime Sturgis wrestling coach Steve Keszler and former Scooper wrestlers Seth Lange, Nate Oviatt, Josh Keszler, and Caleb Chapman all joined the program to reminisce about this historic run.  Listen

Sturgis City Council announces opening for Ward Four Representative

KNBN NewsCenter1 February 17, 2021 STURGIS, S.D. An opening on the Sturgis City Council has the city taking applications to fill the vacancy with a 1-year appointment. Ward Four Council Representative, Steve Keszler has resigned from the Sturgis City Council effective February 16. Individuals living in Ward Four who are interested in serving in this position for the next year are asked to fill out an application and return it to the Sturgis Finance Office at Sturgis City Hall by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26.
