Soon after he is sworn into office, President-elect Joe Biden will reverse President Trump’s most aggressive moves to hijack the 2020 census, according to a preview of executive orders Biden will sign laid out by his advisors Tuesday evening.
Among the orders that Biden will sign Wednesday is a census executive order that will rescind”Trump’s plan, announced in July, to exclude certain immigrants from the census population counts used for congressional apportionment. The order will also undo a 2019 Trump order directing the Census Bureau to produce data on noncitizens, with the aim of facilitating a redistricting overhaul that would have also diminished immigrant political power.
President Biden will overturn a series of Trump-era immigration court victories with executive orders aimed at undoing “the gravest damages of the Trump administration.”

The Trump-appointed official overseeing the 2020 census announced his resignation on Monday, nearly a year before his term was scheduled to end.
Census Bureau Director Steve Dillingham s announcement comes days after the Trump administration backed off from its final attempt to exclude undocumented immigrants from an important count of the nation s population.
The departure saves him from the possibility of being fired by the incoming Biden administration, which has indicated it will not follow the Trump administration s plan to exclude non-citizens when splitting seats in Congress between the states.
