Town officials are planning to put their best foot forward as they prepare for what will likely be the next round of litigation surrounding the proposed housing development for the Mugar Site.
In 2016, the group that is looking to develop the site, known as Arlington Land Realty, LLC, filed a 40B application with the Zoning Board of Appeals. A 40B project is a specific housing development that allows developers to streamline the typical licensing process, making it easier to gain approval from communities. In Massachusetts, a community that has less than 10% of its housing stock classified as affordable housing units is subject to being met with 40B proposals. Arlington is well below that threshold, and over the past 20 years, has seen several 40B projects, including condos on Brattle Street and rental units on Lowell Street, get completed.
