Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash announced Wednesday that right-hander Tyler Glasnow will start Opening Day against the Miami Marlins, according to MLB.com s Adam Berry.
Cannot overstate how casual this announcement was. Answering another question, Cash mentioned that Stetson Allie threw this offseason with Glasnow, who pounded the table to sign Allie. So Tyler not only is going to pitch Opening Day for us, but he s also one of our scouts. Adam Berry (@adamdberry) March 17, 2021
Glasnow had a solid 2020 campaign, going 5-1 with a 4.08 ERA, 1.134 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 57.1 innings. He was even better in the postseason, starting the decisive Game 5 of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees and Games 1 and 5 of the World Series.
Stacked with hard-throwing relievers, clubs in the American League East will be looking to replicate the dominance of the Rays’ “Stable” from 2020 as they hope to make a deep postseason run of their own in 2021.
