Delivered through the Unite Us Platform as part of the statewide network, Unite Texas, the network of social services and medical providers will seamlessly make electronic referrals for participants of the medical school s Household-Centered Care program. Household-Centered Care connects interprofessional teams of community health workers, students and faculty in the disciplines of medicine, nursing and social work with families in Houston s Third Ward and East End to provide care coordination and overall health promotion.

Coronavirus webinar hosted by College of Medicine UH College of Medicine hosted a coronavirus webinar to discuss new developments with the vaccine and new variants. | Courtesy of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention The College of Medicine set up a webinar to discuss the coronavirus vaccines last Thursday. The virtual meeting consisted of a presentation and a short Q&A session to address any questions.  Recently, the University has implemented a COVID-19 testing center on campus for rapid testing, free of charge. With vaccines becoming more widespread, the University is taking steps to provide enough information to encourage people to take the vaccine.

How the coronavirus vaccine will work Gerald Sastra/The Cougar The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first emergency use authorization for a vaccine to prevent coronavirus on Dec. 11 After the vaccine’s manufacturer, Pfizer, and their partner BioNTech met the FDA’s criteria to be approved for the emergency use authorization. To be approved, one of the requirements for vaccine makers was to make sure their products were . Analysis from Pfizer’s trials shows the vaccine surpassed the goal, revealing that it is over 90 percent effective.  With the Pfizer vaccine being the only one approved, biotech company Moderna also nears approval as their vaccine’s preliminary results look promising.
