TAMPA Ahead of president-elect Joe Biden s announcement of a COVID response plan, a new national survey by the University of South Florida in Tampa shows broad support for a new round of stimulus checks and more support for the economy during the pandemic.
USF s School of Public Affairs and the Cyber Florida cybersecurity center surveyed 1,003 Americans for their attitude on stimulus, vaccines and mitigation, such as masks, among other topics.
According to Associate Professor Stephen Neely, more than three quarters of respondents say they would either somewhat or strongly support additional $2,000 stimulus payments and extending federal unemployment benefits for out of work Americans. 75 percent support extending the pause on student loan repayments. 71 percent back extending a federal moratorium on foreclosures and evictiions. Longboat Key is set to conduct its second annual citizen satisfaction survey, beginning with a mailer that should be arriving this week.
Residents are asked to complete the online survey before Feb. 3.
“It’s really important,” said Longboat Key Support Services Director Carolyn Brown. “It provides the town commission, and our town manager and department heads and everybody that works here, the opportunity to truly assess and understand what’s most important to the residents that live here, and be able to adjust and make changes to our focus.”
Brown said homeowners can anticipate receiving a letter in the mail. Each letter has a unique code to complete the online survey.
