The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Yola, Reverend Father Stephen Mamza, has explained why the church built a mosque for internally displaced Muslims at the St Theresa Camp in Yola, Adamawa State.
Mamza stated that since a church was built for the Christian IDPs by the Catholic, the church authorities in Yola also thought it fair and just to provide a “place of worship for the few Muslims among them.”
The man of God has disclosed that he faced opposition but he remained adamant when he revealed his intention to build a mosque for the Muslims who were part of Internally Displaced Persons within the Diocese s catchment area in the capital of Adamawa state. “It is not something that is commonly done; it is not something that we have heard of being done, especially in our country, Nigeria, where everybody is conscious about their own religion,” Legit.ng quoted Rev. Fr. Stephen Mamza as having said. He told The Punch that they did not discriminate against anyone when he and other members of the church played host to the Internally Displaced Persons, so if they were extending further help to the victims, it was only fair and just that they attended to all of them without discrimination based on religion.

In this interview with HINDI LIVINUS, fiery Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Yola, Revd. Fr. Stephen Mamza, speaks on the state of the nation
You
are approaching your 25th year espiscopal ordination, as a Catholic Priest, 10 out of which you are celebrating as a Bishop. How has it been?
Well, thanks be to God that I have had the opportunity of serving in the church for 25 years. The Lord has been sustaining me. He has been very gracious to me. It has not been by my own strength or by my own power, but by the power of God that has been doing everything I did. I can say nothing but thanks to God.

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, yesterday lamented the failure of the Federal Government to utilize the 425 hospitals and clinics offered by the Church’s Conference of Bishops for use as isolation centres in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Recall that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had, on May 11 2020, encouraged the 36 governors to approach the Catholic Bishops in their domains to access the facilities, warning that some of them may find it impossible to cope with the number of coronavirus cases that would be recorded in their states.
