MUSKEGON, MI – A new drug and alcohol detox facility in Muskegon is expected to open next month.
Catholic Charities West Michigan held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, March 12 to celebrate the new facility in Muskegon.
Catholic Charities expects to serve 700 people each year out of the 14-bed center. Previously, the closest detox facilities to Muskegon were in Grand Rapids or Traverse City.
The Kolbe Center, 1713 7th St., will provide stays of three to five nights for people withdrawing from substance abuse, a process that can be dangerous and require medical supervision.

During a typical year, Muskegon doubles down on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, with a variety of activities held on or around March 17. There’s usually a parade, an Irish music party, a Shamrock 5k, and drink and food specials at restaurants and bars all over town. This year, Muskegon had to get creative with their St. Patrick’s celebration. They’ve put out the call to all to bring your very own shanty downtown, and enjoy the very best the area has to offer, safely, with an event thats been dubbed Shamrockin’ In Your Shanty.
