THE realities of York’s affordable housing crisis have been laid bare - with figures showing that the city is currently only getting around 19 new affordable homes a year thanks to low numbers being built and social housing being lost through right to buy.
York is a nationally recognised “hotspot” for failing to deliver affordable homes, a housing association expert told councillors. And the number of people waiting for a home on the council’s housing register has risen to around 1,800.
