SIR – I was saddened but not surprised to read that the Civil Service has asked its employees to hold “festive celebrations” rather than the age-old tradition of a Christmas party (report, December 11).
SIR – While the NHS workers who are planning to strike (Leading Article, December 4) may have a justifiable case for a significant pay rise, I suspect it is the daily battle against the shortages, delays and lack of resources on the front line that is the real grievance.
SIR – Yesterday’s U-turn on addressing the parliamentary standards issue is indicative of a government that seems unable to think through problems.
SIR – It is likely that the other members of the European Union, and the European Court of Justice, will back France in its fishing row with Britain (“EU chief accuses UK of seeking Brexit clash”, report, November 1).
