she s a tremendous spokesperson. she s been loyal. she s been she s just a great person. they had have tried to take away her speech and i think you re entitled to free speech in this country. yeah, they just say if you re working for the white house, you shouldn t be involved in criticizing other candidates or other politicians and she has. will you encourage her not to do that going forward. but it doesn t work that way. i am joined by david korn from mother jones and msnbc analyst, barbara mcquade, and maria teresa kumar president and ceo for voter latino. david, what do you make of it all. plenty to pick from on a friday. yeah. and i think we saw with the stephanopoulos interview the problem that has been evident for a couple years now. what does the media do with a president who lies so much and
so profoundly. a clip you didn t show was at one point trump said about russia s intervention in the 2016 election rerebuffed them. we rebuffed the are you russians. that s exactly wrong. you remember the trump tower meeting when the russians said hey, we re trying to help you guys secretly. we want you to meet with ape sear and what did donald trump jr. now famously say? i love it. it wasn t a rebuff. it was an embrace. so when he says something like that to stephanopoulos to george or the clip you did show when he said i answered all the questions and he goes on about obstruction, what do you do? do you stop the interview? do you look him dead in the eye and say mr. president, you are not telling the truth or give him a platform for this continuous gas lighting and denial of reality that is just getting more and more extensive and even more absurd each day. i think it s a pretty deep question. i take your point. it s a big question particularly in how everyone deals with it.
with more on the president s lawless behavior is ned price and now an msnbc analyst and michelle goldberg and political analyst. it is amazing to watch the clip of stephanopoulos and now look back at that moment with the context of what we know. one of the things we now know is it wasn t just that russia then hacked into hillary clinton s servers. they tried to do it five hours later. they took it as a direct command. there is no reason to believe that all of these other regimes shouldn t do the same thing. you are right. it wasn t just one of the occasionally donald trump will tweet something that is so riotously offensive that is breaks through our numbness and we all freak out for a little while. but it doesn t have any consequences. this was not just a statement. it was an action.
i mean, listen, he s got to live with himself and he s going to have to live with himself into retirement. i hope he enjoys his legacy because this is it. this merrick garland, that s his legacy. and trump was asked what about the next time. have you learned anything? and he said no, i m wide open, i think i would take it. we re not talking about the last election, we re talking about the next one. the thing when you watch the tape with stephanopoulos is how authentic he is. he continually shows himself very mob bossy, too. now that the republicans are becoming the nondemocracy party, this is the same guy that would not vote for $250 million to make our voting machines safer.
heather: trump successfully baits his foes with comments on stephanopoulos with for information on opponents, trump now has many of his worst enemies on the record about how heinous it was to accept any intelligence from a foreign source, trump mentioned norway, hillary and the dnc, paid for dirt from russia. this isn t a question of the law. even when devon nunez released a report on russia they said working with steel was legal and fox news and judge andrew napolitano said it is clear it would be a felony if donald trump did what he said he is willing to do. what are we doing to prevent foreign governments from interfering in our next election. we have mitch mcconnell blocking election protection laws, donald trump giving the green light to any country that wants to interfere. this is about the future
