Suspects Charged in the House Party Murder of Teen Girl
ABILENE, TX After months of what seemed to be little to no progress in the murder of Meghan Kirkland, three arrests have been made in connection to the case.
The 19-year-old college student was killed at a house party in August of 2020. Kirkland was struck after a fight broke out and two different individuals fired their weapons into the crowd.
According to the Taylor County Sheriff s Office, George Girard Johnson of Abilene has been charged with murder and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Stephanie Avalos aka Stephanie Maldonado and Kimberly Renee Limas of Abilene have both been charged with Tampering with Evidence and are being held on a $100,000 bond each.
He then was assisted by his mother and others in hiding evidence, according to court documents.
Details of the killing were given Thursday by Sheriff Ricky Bishop at a news conference.
Investigators learned that during the party eight months ago that a tall, light-framed individual with a distinct speech impediment had been pushed down or ended up on the ground, court documents state.
The individual got up from the ground, pointed a pistol into the crowd and discharged several gunshots, documents state.
One gunshot hit Kirkland.
Arrests are made
George Girard Johnson Jr., 17, of Abilene was taken into custody Wednesday at Woodson Center For Excellence on an arrest warrant for a charge of murder in connection with Kirkland s death, Bishop said.
