Chollerton Hugh Denholm I am sure that we are all p[eased that spring has arrived at last, bringing light evenings, new lambs, birdsong and spring flowers. Everyone will have noticed that for a third year we have a wonderful display of daffodils as one approaches both Barrasford and Gunnerton. After what has been a very trying year for everyone, there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel. Whittonstall Christine Jewitt It has been an interesting few weeks in Whittonstall as the snow and wind arrived without mercy this month. It’s been some time since we experienced such a volume of the dreaded white stuff and having landed in great powdery quantities the swirling winds took no prisoners and simply gathered up the snow to create amazing drifts, re-blocking many of the minor roads which had only recently been ploughed clear. Trees fell and traffic was halted with only the brave venturing out for a few days. Happily, the snow is gone and better temperatures are coming with a hint of spring on the way.

Matfen Jean Conteh Another quiet week in Matfen village as the temperatures plummeted and the weather conspired with the lockdown to keep people indoors. I’m planning to put together the next Matfen Community Newsletter soon, the first one of 2021, so get in touch via jeanconteh@waitrose.com if you have anything you’d like to contribute. It will appear every two months this year. It’s meant to be a round-up of what’s been happening in the community, as well as plans and ideas for the future. It’s a space for anyone in the community to publicise events, ideas and activities, or to share positive thoughts and reflections about life in Matfen over the years. Since it started last year, it has been distributed through Rev Rachel’s email list. If you haven’t received it so far and would like to do so, get in touch on the email above and I’ll ad you to the list.
