Kiwi psyche-pop sensation Benee performs at a packed Shed 6 in Wellington last year. She admits she is a little bit nervous about working with the orchestras. Stella Bennett, known to her fans as Benee, admitted to being a little nervous about the chance to reimagine her award-winning songs with full orchestral backing. “It’s going to be a little bit scary. I have no idea how it’ll go, but hopefully great,” she said. The experience would take Benee and her band out of their comfort zone, but the singer was ready to dive in headfirst. “It’ll be really different from anything I’ve ever done. We’re going to take out most of the tracking stuff and kind of like, fully commit,” she said.

Benee is teaming up with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) in Wellington for a spectacular show that will bring her award-winning songs to life in an new symphonic setting.
Accompanied by a 66-piece orchestra, joining with her own band and guest vocalists, the rising star of New Zealand music is to deliver new arrangements of her platinum hits like ‘Glitter’, ‘Soaked’ and the worldwide smash ‘Supalonely’.
“I’m so stoked to be playing with the NZSO! Adding 66 super talented musicians to the band is going to be something else,” says Benee. “I can’t wait to hear and play some crazy different versions of my songs.”

Benee will collaborate with the NZSO and APO for four concerts in July Of the new arrangements, Cowan said audiences could expect some surprises in Benee’s reimagined back catalogue. Disney, James Bond and 1990s trip hop were all part of the musical makeover. The Wellington-based NZSO is no stranger to cross-genre collaborations with artists that don’t typically fit the classical mould. In 2011 they accompanied Sting, and more recently have worked with New Zealand artists The Phoenix Foundation, Tami Neilson, and Maisey Rika. The symphony’s chief executive, Peter Biggs, hailed Benee as a gifted songwriter and performer. ”We’re excited at what we can create together on stage and for new audiences to experience the NZSO.”
