A Grundy County man will spend the next decade behind bars. Steff Nichols, 32, of Coal City pled guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a class X felony and was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
As part of the plea agreement, four child porn and two other predatory criminal sexual assault charges were dropped. Nichols will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence, register as a sex offender for life and be parole on parole for three years to natural life once released from prison.
Nichols sexually assaulted a female child under the age of 10 somewhere in the Coal City area in 2019. The Coal City Police Department investigated the case and Nichols was taken into custody on Monday, May 24
