Just 15 days after the first day of class, Montana State University Billings is seeing its largest increase in student enrollment in 10 years for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
According to the university, 3,987 students were enrolled, with 2,263 at the University Campus and 1,724 at City College.
MSU Billings Chancellor Stefani Hicswa said Tuesday morning that the university has implemented new efforts to retain students and adhere to COVID protocols.
âWe want to make sure that students have the experience on campus that they need to be retained and finish their degree. The most expensive degree out there is the one that isnât completed,â said Hicswa.

Dr. Stefani Hicswa is one of the newest Yellowjackets on the Montana State University Billings campus. The new chancellor has only been on the job a few weeks.
âStarting a new job in the middle of a pandemic has been really interesting,â she says. âMeeting new people with masks on and knowing who they are and even something as simple as not shaking hands to follow those Covid protocols has been really hard for me.â

BILLINGS - Montana State University Billings Student Health Services (SHS) constructed a new COVID-19 testing lab this past winter break to enhance mitigation and testing efforts for the campus community.
The lab will test symptomatic MSU Billings students to ensure health and safety protocols, such as quarantine and/or isolation, and contact tracing are established quickly to keep the university population healthy and safe.
In addition to testing symptomatic students, the lab will also assist with surveillance testing of student athletes and other student populations as deemed appropriate.
