S A Symphony season may be lost

Symphony, Tuscaloosa Amphitheater welcome live audience on 4th of July

After almost two years since its last major concert, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater returns to public performance Sunday with the Fourth of July event that usually draws a packed house. Celebration on the River begins at 6 p.m. Sunday. The city-sponsored Independence Day show includes a kids zone of activities guided by the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority, a pops and patriotic music concert performed by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, a salute to the military led by Mayor Walt Maddox, and is capped by a 20-minute fireworks display.  All events are free to attend. Every Tuscaloosa Amphitheater concert of the 2020 season was wiped out because of  the COVID-19 pandemic, since the musical acts chose to delay or cancel tours. The Holidays on the River ice-skating event, typically running November through January at the amphitheater, began and ran for a short while last year, but soon closed due to concerns over  adequate personnel numbers.
