Following the sanction by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, on Channels Television over its interview with the spokesperson of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, the International Press Centre, IPC, on Tuesday, described NBC’s move as unwarranted and “highly” intimidatory.
IPC, which stated that there was no law mandating the media not to report IPOB’s activities, emphasized that Channels Television acted in the public and national interest.
According to IPC in a statement signed by its Communications Officer, Olutoyin Ayoade, the NBC was on a mission of another round of violation of press freedom in Nigeria after the anchor of Politics Today, Seun Okinbaloye, did refer to IPOB as a proscribed organisation in the course of the interview.
The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has debunked advertisements and reports that it is currently recruiting.
Mr. Francis Enobore, the Public Relations Officer of the service, made this known in a statement to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, NAN reports.
Enobore said the clarification became necessary, following desperate efforts by fraudsters to scam unsuspecting job seekers or their sponsors.
“it has come to the notice of the management of NCoS that some unscrupulous elements are scamming unsuspected members of the public by purporting to be conducting recruitment exercise on its behalf.
“The Service wishes to categorically state that there is no recruitment exercise currently ongoing and that no agent(s), syndicate(s) or private individuals, have been engaged to carry out recruitment exercise on its behalf.

Lawmakers in the Kwara State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, raised an alarm over the influx of street beggars and the destitute into the Ilorin metropolis describing it as a security threat to the state.
A resolution read by the Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, urged the state government to direct the security agencies in the state to work in synergy to bring the situation under control.
The resolution also urged the public to be active participants in the security of lives and properties by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities within their environments to the security agencies.

The Governor also declared a state of emergency on the WASH sector in the state.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, Governor Ikpeazu said the essence of the law is to provide the legal framework to guide the state actions concerning the provision of potable water to all households in the state.
He explained that water was essential for the socio-economic development of the state as well as the building of a healthy society.
Dr. Ikpeazu said the law makes it mandatory for the government to do the needful to give water to the people, adding that it also spells out the responsibilities of the citizenry.
