The Gadsden Airport Authority will hear presentations from prospective purchasers/leasers of an 88-acre parcel of land on Steele Station Road at its next regular meeting, at noon Aug. 20.
GAA Chairman Harry McLendon said Tuesday that the meeting likely will be in Meeting Room 1 at The Venue, and will be followed Aug. 27 by a meeting for public comments and discussion.
McLendon said the authority is asking that presentations be kept to 45 minutes or an hour.
The GAA has heard from two potential buyers/leasers Pilgrim s Pride, for construction of a rendering plant; and the Etowah Community group, which made an alternative offer to buy or lease to property to develop an industrial park for light industry.
The Gadsden Airport Authority will update the status of rendering plant litigation and schedule another meeting this one to hear proposals from potential buyers or leasers of the contested tract when it meets Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at The Venue.
The authority is involved in litigation related to Pilgrim Pride s expressed interest in buying or leasing about 88 acres of land owned by the GAA on Steele Station Road. Pilgrim s Pride wants to build a rendering plant to make animal food ingredients.
The GAA currently has two informal offers on the table to buy or lease the property. One is from Pilgrim s for construction of the rendering plant. The second is from a group that opposes the plant.

That letter put the company s interest in the site in writing, and asked for the GAA s help in seeking releases from the FAA to develop the property, and with rezoning through the City of Gadsden.
In the latest letter, Glover wrote, We plan this action (going to the FAA) based on consultation with the Authority s consultant, who advised that we may submit the request without Authority action. As you ll recall from our June 16 letter, we are also seeking permission to rezone the 88 acre parcel currently owned by the Authority, he wrote. We respectfully request any necessary public meetings be held as soon as possible so the Authority may consider any offers on both the land saw or lease and the rezoning of the land.
