Superman & Lois’ debut last week was all about bringing the CW’s own Man of Steel back down to earth a little bit, with familial struggles that he couldn’t solve with a punch or an eye beam blast. But when certain revelations about his family life brought the Kent-Lane team back to Smallville, the show presented the idea of a special little family in a small little town…before promptly skewering that notion in some interesting ways.
Okay, let’s get into it…
The Jab. The jab is a fundamental part of boxing. Done correctly it sets you up to basically do whatever you want to your opponent. Either for another jab or a knockout punch. The first 10-15 min of Superman and Lois was just a series of jabs that allowed them to do whatever the fuck they wanted to the geek in me for the following hour-and-fifteen minutes.
Jab 1: the basic origin in literal seconds (though I love it and am always down to see it fully).
Jab 2: Superman The Movie referenced with Jonathan Kent’s death.
The debut pilot for the CW's latest DC Comics show feels like unlike anything we've seen in the Arrowverse so far, taking Supergirl's Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as Superman and Lois Lane and giving them a heaping dose of complex family drama.
