Vernon voters debate pay-as-you-throw program

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   VERNON — With no debate, Vernon voters passed a municipal budget of nearly $1,962,032 with $1.6 million of that to be raised from taxes. The remainder is expected to be raised through revenues received by the town and nearly $37,000 carried over from the current fiscal year, which ends June 1. The approved budget was a $68,000 increase over last year’s budget of $1,894,285. Most of the discussion during Sunday’s annual Town Meeting revolved around solid waste disposal and the town’s pay-as-you-throw program. Article 13 asked voters to appropriate $108,000 for municipal refuse and town-wide recycling. The total does not include funds for state-mandated composting, for which each homeowner is responsible.

NYSEG Is Upgrading Circuits In Putnam County

0:47 A power company has begun electric system upgrades in one of the New York towns it serves. The project is part of NYSEG’s resiliency program to harden its system and guard against power outages from severe weather. New York State Electric & Gas has recently began construction on two circuit upgrade projects in the town of Carmel in Putnam County. NYSEG is performing work along Horsepound Road in the northern section of town, which serves the Carmel town hall and police department and the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department fire house. The other circuit is along Stebbins Road in the southern portion of town. The poles being used for these projects are wider than the previous ones, making them more wind resistant, and there will be some rock drilling to get them into the ground. Construction is expected to be completed in April.

NYSEG Making Upgrades In Carmel To Improve Reliability

Read / Add Comments More reliable power is coming to thousands of Putnam County residents as NYSEG kicks off an extensive project to make improvements to the power grid in Carmel. New York State Electric & Gas announced a pair of projects - one on the north side of town along Horsepound Road and one in the southern part of Carmel, along Stebbings Road. According to NYSEG, the projects - part of the company’s “Resiliency Program” - will upgrade approximately three miles of power lines and bring enhanced reliability to approximately 4,107 residential and business customers. Officials said that crews will be installing new “SCADA” switches, that will allow the company to temporarily switch which circuit is powering a customer’s home or business, providing additional sources of power supply.

Upgrades Proposed For County Overland Trails | News, Sports, Jobs

Funds are being sought to improve Chautauqua County’s trail system. Jacob Bodway, who is the president of the Western New York Mountain Biking Association, is working with the county Parks Commission to implement a six year improvement project for the Overland Trails. Phases 1-3 would be for the West Overland Trails, while Phases 4-6 would focus on the East Overland Trails. Ideally, Bodway would like $75,000 to $100,000 per phase and implement one phase a year through 2026. He has submitted a grant application to the Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation through the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. He is also working with foundations in the county for matching funds.
