is, if anything, but my sense of right now is. if we anything, but my sense of right now is, if we plunge ourselves into a leadership is, if we plunge ourselves into a leadership election, a vote of confidence, which in the end always damages confidence, which in the end always damages leaders, even if they win it, damages leaders, even if they win it. maybe damages leaders, even if they win it, maybe into a leadership election in the it, maybe into a leadership election in the midst of a stitch we are facing in the midst of a stitch we are facing a in the midst of a stitch we are facing a big cost of living crisis. the poorest in society have to be helped the poorest in society have to be helped. this is a crisis of a number of things helped. this is a crisis of a number of things and helped. this is a crisis of a number of things and it can be resolved as a number of things and it can be resolved as a number of of things and it can be resolved as a number of thing
the crowds have grown so much over the last several days, and they say it s going to be even more people coming in the next few days. so obviously it s so crowded inside they re pushing us back at this point, but i can tell you we ve been here for eight days, i haven t seen the crowds like this at all. unfortunately, as we ve all been talking about, these numbers are going to grow. jay gray, we appreciate you joining us on this. i m going to let you get back to it. thank you for now and please stay safe, my friend. courtney, you had incredible reporting coming out last night talking about what we re hearing from a senior defense official when it comes to military action on the ground. the russian military advance, and the ukrainian military, how they re staving off the russians. the overall outlook of what the ukrainians are dealing with
it feels like but that is not what it feels like on the ground from russian troops. we heard the secretary of state say $350 million of weapons was authorized in february, $250 million of that i think was saying had been delivered. so that is anti-tank, anti-aircraft, small arms, various munitions, body armor and other related equipment. but they need airplanes. this is what the people on the ground are saying. they re having a hard time staving off russian troops from taking over some cities like kherson. yeah and the only advantage is the russians don t seem to be learning. they still have vehicles in convoys that again, as that equipment pours into ukraine, you re going to see the vehicles start to get picked off with those javelins and with those other anti-tank weapons. but this is their fight. that is the harsh reality of it. and we got to keep nato out of it from a strategic perspective because we don t want to
a right-wing militia with neo-nazi ties, and despite its history, they were absorbed into the ukrainian national guard, and have been fiercely defending the city from the russians. meanwhile, to the west, to the city of mykolaiv but at a terrible cost. a psychiatric hospital was bombed yesterday. a troop barracks was hit over the weekend, killing dozens. today the washington post reports that hundreds of bodies are piling up in that city s morgues and in casualties of the heavy fighting staving off the russians. and as richard engel reports from kyiv tonight, the capital is not being spared either. but just as in mykolaiv, ukrainian forces are holding the line and even making gains. russia has significantly intensified its attacks in and around kyiv over the last 24 hours, leaving more and more homes across the city like this
cessation of violence. the problem with that is, if you stopped the violence right now, the problem for president zelenskyy is going to be, he s lost most of those black sea cities. he s lost that land bridge that everybody worried about. russia now controls those ports. they control the maritime activity in the black sea. they control the northern part of the country. they re just outside of the capital. they re bombing sites here in the west. so, i think he s going to start staving off calls for some kind of cessation of violence out of fear that this is where the lines will be drawn, that this is where vladimir putin was intending to take and now he s taken that. we re going to hear about the no-fly zone. we re going to hear about the need for more aid, more military support. we re going to hear him say that nato is going to find itself under attack, that one of these rockets will land in nato territory. he s been sounding those bells, playing those nets since the beginning of the c
