STAUNTON A local Black history preservation research society has raised over $10,000 in its recent fundraiser during Black History Month.
Staunton-Augusta County African American Research Society s fundraiser began Feb. 27 and ended April 10. It focused on preserving Black history and establishing eight historical markers in Staunton and Augusta County.
Some of the markers will include D.W. Davis Elementary School, T.C. Edmunds School, Effie Ann Johnson Nursery, Kenneth Jones Funeral Home and several others.
SACAARS Founder and President, Susie Brent King was delighted at the outcome of the fundraiser. The organization had some bumps in the road due to the pandemic, but King never stopped working to continue the efforts of the research society.

City of Staunton water and sewer customers may be eligible for utility relief if they, or someone in their household, have been financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Utility relief is available for past due balances that are at least 30 days in arrears and that are for services received during the covered time period of March 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
