Updated: 11:05, 08 March 2021
Shoppers returning to the city centre next month will be forced to pay £2.80 an hour for the pleasure of using Canterburyâs main car parks, it has been confirmed.
The 70p rise was one of a number of revenue-boosting measures signed off in the city councilâs annual budget last week.
Users of Pound Lane car park will be met with a price increase from April 1
It means, from April 1, hourly rates in Watling Street and Queningate - the two car parks deemed the most in-demand - will be fixed just shy of £3.

Updated: 13:51, 03 March 2021
Controversial plans for a row of retail kiosks on a busy Canterbury street have been refused amid fears they would become sitting ducks for arson attacks.
Concerns over vandalism were among a string of criticisms aimed at the council s vision to install eight timber-clad huts on Station Road West, on the approach to Canterbury West.
Eight kiosks were planned for the street
The proposals - drawn up by the city council in the hope they would create an engaging streetscene - were thrown out by the authority s own planning committee on Tuesday evening.
Canterbury City Council recommend approving retail kiosk scheme despite being one of worst-ever planning applications

Plans to open eight retail kiosks on a busy street look set to be approved - despite the project failing to gain a single supporter and being heavily criticised by police.
Canterbury City Council has recommended its planning committee green-light its own controversial Station Road West proposal at a virtual meeting on Tuesday.
The kiosks are proposed to go between the trees and back onto the multi-storey car park for Canterbury West
But critics have blasted the scheme as âappallingâ and stress the new businesses - likely to include baristas, florists and barbers - will be unwanted competition for struggling firms.
