A challenging school year is almost over. Here’s how Staten Island Academy persevered. Updated 9:07 AM; Facebook Share STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. One of the most challenging school years in history is nearly over for students across New York City who were forced to adapt to a new way of learning, but at Staten Island Academy, the 2020-2021 school year didn’t feel so different than years past. The private school on Todt Hill was able to make its own plans which would be approved by the state to reopen school safely for the school year. That included updating air purification systems in its seven buildings, building tents for outdoor learning, using temperature checking technology, making social distance markers, and setting up plastic partitions and dividers in classrooms.
