Booneville native named U.S. Trooper of the Year
Fort Smith Times Record
Arkansas State Trooper James Ray was patrolling Interstate 40 near Ozark in early December when he was called to assist a fellow officer who was with a person who had a suspended driver s license.
Shortly after Ray arrived, the person fled in the vehicle and reached speeds of up to 100 mph, passing other drivers on the shoulder of the road.
In pursuit, Ray bumped the back of the person s vehicle in a maneuver to cause the driver to spin across the road. Ray said he hoped to disable the vehicle with the maneuver, but the person regained control of and continued driving.
