Two progressive House members are circulating a congressional letter to Secretary of State Tony Blinken. The letter calls on the Biden administration to use diplomatic pressure in an effort to stop the displacement of Palestinians in the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Al-Bustan and Sheikh Jarrah.
“We appreciate your urgent attention to the dire situation in the West Bank. We look forward to your earliest possible reply and working with you to uphold the dignity and human rights of all peoples around the world,” it reads.
The letter specifically calls on the administration to do the following:
Tom Nides, a veteran of the
Bill Clinton and
Barack Obama presidential administrations. Biden could name his choice for the Ambassador role as soon as this week.
The Washington Post pegged Nides
as the favorite for the position. But Kornbluh’s report shows Wexler remains in the running, with notable support from Secretary of State
Tony Blinken.
Wexler represented parts of South Florida in Congress for more than a decade, from 1997 to 2010. He also served six years in the state Senate, from 1990 to 1996.
In 2010, Wexler resigned from Congress after being named executive director of the Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation, a D.C. think tank.

Israel and the U.S. want to fence their disagreements over the 2015 nuclear deal off from cooperation on other Iran-related issues, a senior Israeli official told me following talks on Tuesday in Washington between White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan and his Israeli counterpart, Meir Ben Shabbat.
Why it matters: The Israelis see a U.S. return to the deal as a matter of when and not if, Israeli officials say. So while Ben Shabbat arrived in Washington with a prepared message on Iran stating Israel s objections to the deal and stressing Israel s freedom of operation against Iran he was keen to move the discussion onto other issues.
