incident that night? we have no information of that nature at all. okay. all right. let me get to the case. we ve talked about how the d.a. and the u.s. attorney and the chief came out early to try to prepare the public, to try to quell any potential violence or vandalism and then released this video. i was in baltimore in 2015 after the death of freddie gray, and there was no video in that case but there were the riots as we all watched as a country. when the d.a. or the state s attorney marilyn moseby came out that day, she said i heard your calls for no justice, no peace. the defense attorney for those baltimore officers says that in the time between the death and the charges there was no way that there could have been a comprehensive investigation. are you concerned that these charges, although i know you believe they re just, that they came at the right time, that all of the work necessary in the investigation leading up to them
understandable why they were charged with murder in my opinion. we also got word overnight, chief, that two deputies have been put on leave after their sheriff spotted them on the video at the scene. are you anticipating that more officers might face charges or disciplinary action based on what you ve seen? i don t know about criminal charges but certainly disciplinary action. when you watch the video, you see more and more officers arrive. no one intervenes. no one tries to aid mr. nichols at all, again, in violation of department policy. so i would think that there will be some administrative action. by that, i mean disciplinary action taken against some additional officers. but those who actually had a physical confrontation with mr. nichols, those are the ones being charged criminally. of course, it s up to a state s attorney to determine whether or not it rises to that level beyond those five, but certainly
abhorrent. i don t know where these police officers and paramedics and firefighters were trained where it s okay to leave someone who s in agony and pain and clearly in distress and not do anything for him. and to that point, we learned late yesterday that two shelby county deputies have been placed on leave following the release of that video. what else can you tell us about that, and what about the other personnel who were on the scene? because we were talking to some experts in our last hour who were saying, you know, what about these individuals? what about, you know, responsibility being taken by those individuals? well, i can tell you this, jim, we had a very productive meeting, you know, with the shelby county state s attorney, the fbi, and the department of justice, and they have promised and ensured us that they are going to look at everybody who was on that scene. now, it s my personal opinion that those other officers who
