A bill has been introduced in the Michigan House that would increase penalties for people who trespass on the Mackinac Bridge. State Representative John Damoose introduced the bill saying the possibility of heightened penalties could help deter illegal walking or climbing on the bridge. In June 2021, a man with a backpack scaled the underside of the bridge, forcing a temporary closure of the bridge. Damoose is also working with the House Committee to amend the bill to add other critical bridges to the list including the international bridges to Canada in Sault Ste. Marie, Port Huron and Detroit.

Now, Northern Michigan lawmakers are reacting to the start of the presidency and what they think the President’s first 100 days says about the future of the administration.
President Biden has signed more than 60 executive orders, as well as an almost $2 trillion stimulus package. He also allowed 200 million vaccine doses to be administered nationwide.
The Grand Traverse Democrats say the President has stuck by his campaign promises.
“As far as President Biden, he has done a tremendous job,” said Party chair, Chris Cracchiolo. “Basically the play book was written during his campaign and he’s implemented and laid out plans to implement so many of the things that he talked about last year.”
