Judge dismisses legislator’s plea to quash criminal case against him for speech
CHENNAI The Madras High Court has observed that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) organising secretary and Member of Parliament R.S. Bharathi
prima facie “humiliated and insulted” people belonging to the Scheduled Castes by claiming that their rise to higher positions in the judiciary was nothing but “alms” provided by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Says, mere pendency of the cases should not be regarded as any adverse inference being drawn against him The Madras High Court on Wednesday adjourned to June 21 the hearing on two cases filed against Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani accusing him and some officials of indulging in massive irregularities in award of several contracts for civil works by the Greater Chennai and Coimbatore Municipal Corporations in the last few years.
Jayaram Venkatesan of
Arappor Iyakkam, a non-governmental organisation, and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam organising secretary R.S. Bharathi had filed the cases in 2018. When they were listed before Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, advocate V. Suresh, representing Mr. Venkatesan, urged the court to fix a date for hearing.

The Madras High Court on Thursday reserved its orders on a writ petition filed in 2013 accusing Milk and Dairy Development Minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji of having amassed wealth disproportionate to his known source of income ever since he held the post of vice-president of Tiruthangal Town Panchayat (now a Municipality) in Virudhunagar district in 1996.

The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) on Monday informed the Madras High Court of having completed the investigation in a case against DMK MP S. Jagathrakshakan for alleged forgery in purchase of shares of Chrome Leather Company Private Limited in 1995.
Appearing before Justice N. Sathish Kumar, Advocate General Vijay Narayan and State Public Prosecutor A. Natarajan submitted that even a draft chargesheet was ready in the case. They sought permission of the court to file it before the judicial magistrate concerned in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC).
