since 1934. joining us now in the winners circle is someone who had a hand in the democratic party victories of the state level, the 82nd attorney general of the united states, eric holder, the chairman of the national democratic redistricting committee. thank you very much for joining us again tonight. you have been stressing all year the importance of state level voting. what is your interpretation of the results of what democrats did? i think democrats did unbelievably well. the nation is the better for. it election deniers who ran for secretary of state ian i guess 13, 14 states, among those 13 or 14 states were critical states that could have an impact on the 2024 election. and we won those states. we emphasized in a way the democrats have not in the past, the importance of state level elections. not only secretaries of state but state legislatures of well. that let me went through is an
we emphasized in a way the democrats have not in the past, the importance of state level elections. not only secretaries of state but state legislatures of well. that let me went through is an indication of, if we focus on these elections, we focus on state elections, we can win in the states. this is where the democracy is actually protected. as the president said. the media always has a focus on the national party figures. that s where the superstars are. but barack obama began as a state legislator. there is no president obama without a successful campaign for the state legislature,
parties and not for the very few and the future of the german party system was always sort of taking place in other state level elections you know the the first red green party the first red green coalition in hessen the first black green coalition in hamburg. but now for the first time bavaria doesn t show as the past of the german party system but possibly its future too and it s not just in germany right i mean we re seeing this political fragmentation in fact all over here up on other parts of the world as well and i m looking of course at the netherlands italy sweden on these smaller parties gaining voters from the established parties do you think constantine just as a quick follow up that this is the new political reality. i think so to an extent it is and i think there s two things to keep in mind here number one. and this is something that people tend to forget when they look at sort of the seismic when they speak of the seismic nature of the shift of the you know the deal in t
around the corner. and this time the democrats are very aware that it s coming. that s why the political effort that president obama and eric holder are working on together after the obama administration what they re working on is districts. how the districts will be drawn after the 2020 census. they want democrats to make up what they lost when republicans ran the table and changed all the districts in their favor in 2010. that s the same effort that s going on with that massive effort in michigan right now not to make the districts more democratic but to make them nonpartisan make them competitive. that s what s going on with all the focus in democratic politics on winning state level elections. you keep hearing democrats and democratic party partisan fighting about the stuff talking about the need to win at state level, win state legislature seats. that s what that s about. it s a renewed focus for democratic activism in every state in the country. that s what s driving it. the fact
