Higher ed funding in 2022 was higher than any year since the 2008 recession, defying expectations. Some worry the boost was a short-term spike. State funding for public higher education increased by nearly 5 percent in fiscal year 2022 without factoring in inflation, according to the latest State Higher Education Finance (SHEF) report from the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO).
