AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday set aside the State Election Commissions (SEC) April 1 notification on the conduct of elections to mandal and zilla parishad territorial constituencies.
The court, setting aside notification, said it was illegal, arbitrary and violative of the direction issued by the Supreme Court.
The High Court directed the SEC to issue a fresh notification resuming the election process from where it was stopped (in March 2020).

Voting for the Mandal and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies elections (MPTC, ZPTC), is underway in the state of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday which commenced at 7 AM.
The State Election Commission(SEC) has already made necessary arrangements in place and was ready to conduct the polling.
Earlier State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney conducted a teleconference with district Collectors and police officials over the poll preparedness and security arrangements to be made to ensure free conduct of polls.
Over 2.46 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the elections for 7,220 MPTCs and 515 ZPTCs seats in 13 districts across the state.

Praveen Kumar cleared the way for MPTC and ZPTC elections scheduled for April 8, by overturning Justice U. Durga Prasad Rao’s order to impose a stay on the State Election Commission’s notification dated April 1.

SRIKAKULAM: Even as the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has decided to boycott the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections to be held in Andhra Pradesh, a few of the TDP leaders in the state are conducting meetings ahead of the elections, against his orders.
The TDP in a meeting held on Friday and presided over by its chief N Chandrababu Naidu decided to boycott the ZPTC and MPTC elections.
Even after his call for a boycott of the election, few TDP leaders are holding meetings in villages and some of them are freely violating the model code of conduct.
