The new $104.5 million St. Cloud Tech High School is having a construction and development domino effect in the Granite City.
The first domino to fall was the new school itself, which opened in fall 2019 on a campus at 3500 County Road 74, a mile northeast of Interstate 94 and the Trunk Highway 15 interchange in St. Cloud.
Now, two spinoff projects are moving forward as the city plans to reuse the old high school, which first opened in 1917, as a City Hall. That frees up the existing City Hall site for redevelopment, which the city is also pursuing.
For starters, the city is seeking demolition, abatement and renovation bids to convert the old Tech High School into its new life as a municipal building. The renovated building is scheduled for occupancy in January 2022.
