announcer: from abc news, this is world news now with john muller and diana perez. good morning. happy to be with you on this back-to-work tuesday. back-to-work tuesday, everybody. long weekend and now back to the grind. it s over. we begin with details on the foiled bomb plot aimed at an oregon high school. the 17-year-old accused of stashing bombs in his bedroom had been discussing explosives with other students just before his arrest. he is due in court today. his classmates head back to school. abc s john schifrin is following this investigation. good morning. reporter: good morning. authorities in oregon assured parents that the high school building is safe, saying they went through there with bomb-sniffing dogs and will have more officers on hand when the kids return to school this morning. as for the juvenile, he is in jail after police say they found homemade explosives under the floorboards in his bedroom. authorities in oregon say this
crazy that we live in a day and time where people are still threatening to do crazy things for nothing. reporter: ahmed s alleged plot involved stashing bombs in rolling suitcases and setting off explosions during a rush hour attack next year. agents say he had been videotaping subway stations. he allegedly handed over his recordings to someone he thought was with al qaeda, but it was a sting. the fbi was aware of mr. ahmed s activities from before the alleged attempt began and closely monitored him until his arrest. reporter: ahmed, his wife and son live in a virginia suburb where neighbors say he kept a low profile. i m shocked. i never would have expected it out of them. i have seen them a few times. they kind of kept to themselves, but they were nice. reporter: while commuters were shocked, investigators insist ahmed posed no danger. i want to make myself
