Howard County Public School System officials continued talking this week about what delaying school start times would look like for students and families. The county school board’s aim is to delay start times for high schoolers, moving from the current 7:25 a.m. start to 8:30 a.m., or maybe later, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Beginning this fall high schools in the nation’s most populous state can’t start before 8:30 a.m. and middle schools can’t start before 8 a.m. under a 2019 first-in-the-nation law forbidding earlier start times.
