It was built by a german immigrant to america, William Peterson, and he used the house as a boarding house. This is a relic of 19th century civil war boardinghouse culture. Once upon a time, everybody lived in boarding houses senators and even vice president. This house is an important part of and development antebellum and the civil war history.
