A rose to Crime Prevention Task Force, which will use its monthly meeting to stage a town hall to discuss its plans and seek citizen input as it addresses the recent uptick in violent crime in the community. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Trotter Center. During the meeting, the Task Force committees will lay out their plans, but also want to hear from citizens and ideas they may have. The task force hopes to use that information as it puts together its final report, which will then be presented to the mayor and council and police department. Monday’s meeting, then, is an opportunity to participate in these efforts, so whether you are simply interested in what steps are being considered or have ideas that, as of now, haven’t been presented, we encourage citizens to attend and participate. Starkville Utilities has agreed to purchase 30 megawatts of solar energy, which is equivalent to 15% of Starkville’s annual electricity consumption. In addition to providing a local, clean and cost-effective renewable energy option for customers, the utility’s participation in Green Invest will help maintain the city’s Valley Sustainable Communities gold status.
“Green Invest is part of Starkville Utilities’ Future FOCUS initiative to ensure our customers have safe, reliable, affordable electricity that includes renewable options,” said Terry Kemp, general manager of Starkville Utilities. “This announcement represents a positive step forward in our partnership with TVA that will help us build a more diverse energy portfolio to power Starkville’s growth well into the future utilizing renewable energy.”

Starkville Utilities Department has partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority to become the first municipality in the state of Mississippi to sign an agreement to create local renewable energy.
Through the Green Invest agreement, SUD bought 30 megawatts of a potential 200 offered, which will equal to 15 percent of Starkville’s annual electricity consumption.
