PERRY TWP. For more than a decade, members of the Perry History Club have been working to restore a 127-year-old one-room schoolhouse.
During the last few years through grant funding and fundraising, the group has been able to stabilize the brick walls and install a new subfloor, wooden trusses, roof deck with an ice shield and synthetic polymer slate roof.
A new furnace replaced the aging system that once warmed the school and electric service was installed in the building.
PARIS TWP. Dutchcraft Truss & Metal is expanding because of a greater demand for trusses in the home construction industry.
Company owner Reggie Stoltzfus is adding a 9,449-square-foot addition to the business. For Stoltzfus, the expansion is about meeting demand for the product. In another two weeks, we should be complete, he said about the ongoing expansion. It is manufacturing and a little bit of warehouse as well. We hope to be operating in it by April 1.
The project involves a freestanding building separate from the existing plant in the 2200 block of Fox Avenue SE. The site is about two and half miles northwest of Minerva.
