DARIEN Darien Library received a five-star library rating from Library Journal in the annual review of U.S. public libraries. Darien Library is one of 10 libraries in its category and the only public library in the state of Connecticut to receive a five-Star rating. This marks the library’s 13th time being recognized as a star library in the Index’s 13th year.
“This honor is a direct reflection of the incredible work ethic, creativity, and commitment to hospitality that every staff member embodies at Darien Library. It is made possible through the support of the Town of Darien, our Friends, and our extraordinary community of users,” said Kiera Parrott, Darien Library Director.
Library lovers, there is another reason to continue supporting the Pueblo City-County Library District.
For the first time, the district has earned the title of Five Star Library for its work in 2020, a distinction awarded by the Library Journal. Although the library has been awarded distinctions in the star library program previously, this is the first time in five years of consecutive years of being in the program that the district has received a five star distinction.
Ann Boyden, marketing manager for the Pueblo City-County Library District, noted the library staff worked hard during 2020 to increase digital offerings to the community, especially by providing programming through virtual methods, such as livestreams on Facebook and YouTube. The library has also offered hotspots, allowing for community members to access the internet despite lack of internet access, and counted more connections to the Wi-Fi offered at all library locations.

(Niles-Maine District Library)
The Niles-Maine District Library has been named one of the nation s Star Libraries for the eighth time by Library Journal, a publication specializing in research and reporting for public libraries. The rating is based on a massive review of data from over 5,600 libraries across the country, of which only 262 were chosen for the coveted title of Star Library.
Libraries scores are determined by the specially-cultivated
LJ Index, which mainly focuses on statistics for material circulation (including electronic materials such as ebooks), program attendance, in-person visits, and public Internet usage. The index was designed to measure a Library s total output of resources relative to peer libraries, with institutions being grouped based on yearly expenditure. The Niles-Maine District Library is one of sixteen chosen libraries in Illinois.
