And im andrea nakano. We hear a lot about crime here in the bay area, about the state of things versus the perception, but we hear less about the victims left behind. Crime victims and their loved ones gathered to share their own stories. Amanda hari reports from lake merritt. Reporter dozens of people gathered here to tell their stories about how crime has impacted their lives. The idea behind it is that when survivors speak, change happens. Healing but not healed, and i have to remind myself that thats okay. Reporter like this 15yearold. Ive been through, you know, emotional, physical abuse with my mother in the past. Reporter her mother was an alcoholic. She says she grew up in fear but now shes finally safe, living with her aunt, going to high school, and focussing on getting into a good
