of truth. and that is what do we do about the filibuster. i ve always been one that s been very reluctant about changing the filibuster because what is now an annoying nuisance to the majority can turn into a shield later on when the shoe is on the other foot. on the other hand, we re talking about democracy itself here. we re talking about the right to vote. and what really bothers me, i have to tell you, i feel like the world is turned upside down. when i was governor, i used to have a standing bet with my colleague, jesse ventura, in minnesota, about which state would have the highest turnout. i thought that was the whole idea, more people voting. that s what democracy should be all about. we were always trying to see who could have the highest turnout. here we are now and we ve got a political party that seems to be betting its future on keeping people from voting. so i think there s going to be a lot of very deep conversation about where we go from here.
the commission, susan collins of main and bill cassidy so said just that, if we don t do a bipartisan commission filled with an array of figures like lamar alexander, and it is going to be an nancy pelosi run select committee or investigation through the standing house committees that is going to be entirely driven by democrats. it is not no investigation at all. and i think that is going to create challenges. i think there are two camps in the gop. one, clearly scared of donald trump. they don t want to cross him. the other camp is, if we just don t talk about him, don t let democrats talk about him, just look away, he will fade. and i think that is the school of thought that you see in the senate. the problem with that school of thought is they ve been making that bet for six years. it is naive. it is now almost june of 2021. literally six years now that is the standing bet of the gop,
