The Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) has joined the growing list of organisations calling for the resignation of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Westmoreland, the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) George Wright, describing his purported action as both “sinful and immoral”. The embattled MP is widely believed to have been the man who was seen on a viral video inflicting a merciless beating on a woman, Tannisha Singh, who is said to be his common-law wife. The incident took place in Hanover earlier this month. Although battered to the point where she had to seek medical attention after she was pounded for several minutes with both fists and a stool, Singh has refused to press charges, forcing the police to end their investigation into the incident.
