Licking View yard flooded with sewage, storm water

FALLS TOWNSHIP - Even following weeks of copious amounts of rainfall, Skip Birkhimer didn t expect his Licking View rental home s basement and backyard would become a suburban swamp on Saturday complete with raw sewage.
During an inspection Tuesday morning, crews from the county sewer department found an old storm water system predating county records that some houses are illegally tapped into, according to Muskingum County Sewer Department manager Stan Lucas.
Birkhimer contacted the Environmental Protection Agency on Saturday, who in turned told the county sewer department to patch the leak as soon as possible. It was completed on Tuesday.

Sewer Department Visits County Commissioners
The area is known as Licking View. Department manager Stan Lucas tells us more.
“Licking View is an area that’s un-sewered by the county and there’s a lot of issues with septic tanks and stuff like that in the area. We’ve had a lot of residents come in and have different complaints about the area so we’re not starting the design process for that area.”, Lucas explained.
The project currently has no timetable for a start date, designs could take two years to finish.
