putin under false pretense for launching a potential invasion of ukraine. and so the russian people will suffer immediately on day one. 40% of their revenues come from oil exports. that will be cut down. they will be isolated in terms of their economic engagement with the world, their financial sector. they re going to feel it immediately, and they re going to look around and say to putin, why did you put us into this position. this is on vladimir putin, this is not on joe biden, this is not on ukraine. this is on vladimir putin making a choice to do this, and the russian people certainly aren t going to look well on that. i do have to add as well that for vladimir putin, there s only one person that he really cares about, and that s him. and so if he feels that that pressure is too much, he s going to try to find a way to move out of this, but the pressure has to be consistent to get us to that place. joel, peter, amna, we have breaking news just getting in from brazil. take a look
the world stage is that the congress is not with him, that handicapped our ability to lead in this much critical moment. that s the shame fullness of the faction within today s republican party, that gives voice to the greater gop. former congressman, david jolly. as always, thanks for joining with us. amna, you re sticking with us. next, nato activating its response force for the first time in history. what it tells us about this moment? and nato s role in rolling back russia. our live coverage continues, just a moment. our live covere ag winner, seven years in a row. in fact, subaru has won most trusted brand just a moment. for more consecutive years than any other brand. as their best overall brand. once again. it s easy to love a brand you can trust. it s easy to love a subaru.
russian onslaught of kyiv has been terrible. they are hitting lots of civilian targets. we re seeing really horrible pictures coming out of kyiv. so i think tonight and tomorrow will be critical with ukraine. and honestly, i m really just hoping to see president zelenskyy s face tomorrow in a video, telling us that he s okay, and that he s still here. amna, what happens if nato troops clashed with russia directly? i think that is what they re exactly trying to avoid here. look, what s at stake here is not just the potential for and nato troops to class directly, but it s really a realignment of the region itself. russia were to get control of ukraine, that makes a nato, nato s eastern flank much more difficult to defend. and so, what is at stake here is, absolutely, ukraine s sovereignty. absolutely, you know, russia being further emboldened in any way. but also, just the existence of nato, the strength of nato. and i think the last 48 hours, the ramping up of the response
union as well? i hope that the process of making ukraine part of the u.s. is gonna be a little bit easier now, and we ve seen ukraine fighting on its own, and making its own fight against the russian invasion. ukraine will need help rebuilding after this. so that you should be something easier for ukraine. nato, on the other hand, it s gonna be a little bit more complicated, because of the different negotiations we re seeing with a nato about what happens if russia attacks and nato country, while pursuing this for ukraine. we re seeing tanks running out of belarus that are really close to the border of poland. so i think that s gonna be a little bit trickier for ukraine to navigate, but after this, i think its path will be a little bit easier to join nato that it was before. kimberly, i gotta ask you. amna and i sort of said, we ve come to this as journalists. you are an x we heard in the region. what is it that you are watching for next? tonight. i think tonight, overnight, the
long as my arm. he s weaponized his grievances, which is, in fact, what the invasion of ukraine was all about. you know, the russian i date myself, but i go back to george kennan s famous long telegram about russia when he was ambassador to russia in the 1940s was that russians have felt aggrieved and isolated from europe for centuries. there s very little that can remedy their insecurity. in fact, putin s speech the other night, he quoted a poem by a 19th century russian poet saying that russia had been excluded from the european enlightenment, so he he s very, very wounded. unfortunately, i don t think the world or fortunately, rather, i don t think the world is going to buy into that. amna, that speech that we re expecting from the president, what are you hearing about what the white house is hoping to accomplish with that speech? there s a couple of things there. and both of them have been
